The situation todayThe education project that has become Sučany Bilingual Grammar School is without any doubt a great success. The educational achievements demonstrate that Sučany can be compared favourably to the vast majority of secondary schools in both Britain and Slovakia. Excellence in the long term is however, not automatic. The experimental nature of the school means that extra demands are made on all resources, both human and financial. To date, the Ministry of Education has welcomed the school into the Slovak Secondary School system, treating it on equal terms with other schools. The Ministry has undertaken to continue its funding of Sučany as part of this State system. Over the last five years, the Know How Fund, with some extra support from the British Council, has taken on all those additional funding requirements associated with setting up and maintaining an institution for quality bilingual education. As the tenure of this support comes to a close, it is desirable for the school to attract financial sponsorship to ensure its longer viability as a centre of excellence. New co-operation between Know How Fund and the school will create a structure to co-ordinate sponsorship activities on behalf of the school, allowing us to raise revenue through corporate and private initiatives to augment the normal budget. |
